On Friday, October 16th, Kindergarten participated in their first STEM lab. Mrs. Simpson and Mrs. Williams designed two great activities that created opportunities for our students to hypothesize using prior knowledge, create a boat to hold treasure and even test out how much treasure their boat would hold. Teams were able to choose their material and design their boat. We had some great designs and were surprised at the success of the boat that was made from wax paper. We also had time to choose materials to design a sail to get a pre-made ship across the water. Since we had already made our special snack with a sail, the students were excited and designed some different sails. We tested them with wind and they moved across the water nicely. It was a great learning day!

Thanks to our room moms - Mrs. Ambery and Mrs. Batroff, our class enjoyed a special snack as we learned about Columbus Day. We built the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. We talked about how Christopher Columbus was a explorer. The sails of the ships were fun to eat and very sour!
Hope you can come to Keheley's Fall Festival on Friday, October 9th from 5-7:30. I will be in the dunking booth from 5:00-5:15 so be sure to order tickets and be there early for the FUN!
We had a great afternoon celebrating the fact that Keheley students and parents worked so hard to raise over $34,000 for our school! Thanks for all your efforts. Students got to celebrate with an assembly where our Noah got to help Silly String Mr. Smith and Nicholas got to throw a pie in Mrs. Huggins' face (another Kindergarten teacher). They even got to see Mrs. Johnson kiss a pig named Maple. All our Kindergarten students had a great time at the Farm yesterday! We started with a hayride. We were able to see a Border Collie herd sheep in a field and a giant pig. We saw cows and their calves. We went in the barn to see the chickens, a noisy rooster, ducks, turkeys, a pig named Phoebe, sheep and a 2 week old calf. We saw a demonstration of how Miss Rosie got milked and even got to feel the suction of the milkers that made it possible to get 8 gallons of milk in 20 minutes! We had fun at the pig races where Ross, Chandler, Monica and Rachel raced for their prize of chocolate milk and as you know got our very own pumpkin. We ended the day with a lovely lunch in the pavilion. All our Keheley students were well behaved and enjoyed the day. I hope your child has lots of stories to share about their experience! As we were learning about community helpers and people who keep us healthy, students got to explore some of the tools those workers use. They had a great time! We had a great time at our Pep Rally on Tuesday to get the Courgarthon fundraising started! Please log onto themovincrew.com and sign up your child to create a custom fundraising page. Share your page with family, friends, etc. with email, Facebook and twitter. Let's meet our class goal of raising $1,500. Our class team name is the Thurmanators! Go Team! We had a great first day of learning our procedures and some friends' names. We played Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar? We found where Pete the Cat was hiding and enjoyed the playground. Hope you heard some great stories of your child's adventure today! I am excited to !meet all my new students and parents at Sneak a Peek tomorrow! See you between 7:30 and 9:00.
