The Hour of Code is a global movement by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming.
Your children we able to experience the basics of coding and giving directions in computer language. Students worked with an app on ipads called Scratch Jr. and then worked to progam a robot mouse through a small maze by giving it commands to turn left, turn right, go forward or backward. Students had an amazing time.
There is a game I have at home called Robot Turtles. It is a board game that teaches the basic principles of coding. A father designed it for his own child because he wanted the to teach coding in a basic way. My son LOVES it. Here are a few links to other sites about coding.
